STEVENS POINT, Wis. (November 15, 2015) – If you have a beer “sweet tooth,” then the Long Nights variety pack is for you.

The latest variety12-pack from Stevens Point Brewery features four unique brews that will appeal especially to those beer lovers who enjoy the sweeter side of the craft beer scene: Malted Milk Shake Lager, Pistachio Nut Brown Ale, Gingerbread Ale and Salted Caramel Toffee Ale. Available at retail from November through the end of January wherever Point’s handcrafted beers are sold, the Long Nights variety pack contains three 12-ounce longneck bottles of each new brew.

These are not traditional winter seasonals, according to Point Brewmaster Gabe Hopkins. “The Long Nights beers are handcrafted dessert-style beers brewed to be sweeter by emphasizing their maltiness, not their hop bitterness. They feature flavors typically not found in winter beers,” he said.

The Long Nights variety pack is the latest variety 12-pack from Stevens Point Brewery, which also produces a Harvest Craft Creations variety pack of flavored ales for the fall, the Long Days quartet of pale golden lagers with fresh fruit flavors for the summer, and a year-round IPA variety pack featuring four unique, hoppy India Pale Ales.

“Variety packs are just as popular with craft beer drinkers during the winter as they are in summer and fall, so we were planning for the Long Nights package long before our Long Days variety packs were sold out at retail last summer,” said Julie Birrenkott, Point Marketing Manager. “Variety packs are a great way to introduce innovative new beers that will resonate with craft beer lovers interested in exploring new flavors and styles.”

Introducing the Long Nights Beers

Malted Milk Shake Lager is a very dark lager that pairs well with anything chocolate. Brewed with wheat malt, chocolate malt, malted milk powder, and Topaz and Tettnanger hops, the beer is aged on a bed of cocoa nibs. “In addition, we actually add chocolate syrup at the back end, right before bottling,” Hopkins explained.

Pistachio Nut Brown Ale is a traditional mild brown ale featuring a blend of Victory malt, a lightly roasted malt that establishes the beer’s nutty character; caramel malt, which adds sweetness; and Palisade hops, an aroma variety from the Pacific Northwest. The pistachio nuts are added to the mash tun at the beginning of the brewing process after Point’s brewers grind them using a hand grinder. “The pistachio flavor really comes through, enhancing this ale’s nutty flavor and aroma,” Hopkins said.

Point Gingerbread Ale is a spicy ale, amber brown in color. The recipe includes chocolate and caramel malts, Perle and Tettnanger hops, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, all-spice and orange peel. Molasses added to the brew kettle brings it all together. “Molasses is a key ingredient in gingerbread and it’s a key ingredient in this ale, too,” Hopkins said. “Taking a sip of Point Gingerbread Ale is like taking a bite of a gingerbread cookie.”

Salted Caramel Toffee Ale is a golden-colored beer best described as a “trip to the candy store.” The beer is brewed with rich caramel malts and Mt. Hood hops, and a generous amount of real salted caramel is added to the brew kettle. “When you taste this beer, you will get the aroma and sweetness of the caramel on the back end, while the saltiness accentuates the caramel malt. This is a sweet beer, indeed,” Hopkins said.
